The Inland Empire Section is pleased to host the Los Angeles Chapter ASSP 2018/2018 Leadership Election in conjunction with the section Leadership Election.  As chapter members you will be able to vote for the LA Chapter Slate of Officers. As Section members you will also be able to vote for the Section Leadership Candidates.  Both votes will help to lead your members into the new American Society of Safety Professionals in the 2018/2019 Chapter Year.

The presentation is a mid-year Cal-OSHA Update from Ray Acree, Area 6 Manager covering all of San Bernardino County.  This is definitely “can’t miss” information that you won’t get online.

The Inland Empire Section Election Committee has evaluated and submit the following members to the leadership for the section and they are excited to serve the section member in the coming year.

The LA Chapter Election Committee has submitted the following individuals and their expressed their desire for an Executive Committee role for the Los Angeles Chapter of the ASSP:

President Tajinder Singh (Prev. Elected 2017-2018)

Tajinder Singh holds the designation of Certified Safety Professional and Associate Safety Professional. He has over 16 years of experience in diversified industries which include retail, distribution, and construction. Most recently, he has taken the position of Project Safety Manger for a large construction project.

President Elect Dolores Salman

I am currently the Director of Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability at FOX Networks Group – a global leader in media and entertainment with businesses in film, television and sports. I handle all aspects of EHS for National Geographic Partners, the FOX Creative Services Group and Scripted Television production. Previously a Senior EHS Consultant, my practice included designing, developing, implementing and delivering EHS&S solutions for various clients and industries.

I served on the Board of Directors as Membership Chair for the OCASSP Chapter from July 2013 to June 2016.  I currently represent FOX at the Motion Picture and Television Production Industry’s Labor-Safety Management committees in Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver.

I believe that my safety experience in various industries along with my past leadership roles have prepared me to help the Society succeed. As your president-elect, I hope to work with all of you to continue to improve the services and outreach activities that enhance ASSP membership. It would be an honor and a privilege to serve as your President-Elect for the upcoming 2018/2019 year.

Vice President Tim Melvin

Tim Melvin is a director and co-founder of Shirley Parsons, an executive headhunting, consulting and staffing firm that specializes in the placement of environmental, health and safety professionals. The company has 5 offices across the US, UK and Europe, and has worked with firms of all sizes to attract and develop talent across the world.

Tim gained his degree in psychology before entering the recruitment industry, and has worked with hundreds of companies to source EHS talent across the construction, manufacturing and energy industries. His clients range from small to medium-sized companies through to Fortune 100 organizations, for whom he has sourced everything from entry-level graduates through to global vice presidents of EHS.

In 2014, Tim founded the first US office for Shirley Parsons in Boston, Massachusetts. After rapidly growing the company to a team of almost 20 recruiters, in 2017 he launched Shirley Parsons’ second office in Los Angeles, California. Tim brings to the table a network and knowledge base that has been developed over many years, with a global reach of over 100,000 EHS professionals across 5 continents.

Committed to advancing the profession, we play an active role in guiding the future leaders who will play an essential role in our clients’ current and ongoing success. Treasurer / Delegate Kevin Okerstrom

Kevin currently holds the following designations: CSP, CHST, STS-C, and MBA. Kevin began his career in Investigations.  Having graduated with BS in Criminal Justice from CSULB. He transitioned into safety and now has over 15 years of safety experience.  He spent 13 years in general industry but has spent the last two years within construction industry. Kevin has been a member of the ASSE Los Angeles Chapter since 2015.

Secretary Francisco Mota

Frank Mota has over 10 years’ experience in Asset Protection and Loss Control. In his current role as Environmental, Health & Safety Manager he has responsibility of Risk Management, Safety and Safety Training, Fleet Safety, Workers Compensation, Claims management and negotiates all lines of insurance. Frank has built a culture of safety by partnering with Dept. Managers and establishing an Injury Prevention Team that addresses safety concerns and investigates accidents and near-misses. Frank is also a member of the California Grocers Association Emergency Response Committee which is currently revising Emergency Operations Plan and Standard Operations Procedure Manual. Special focus is being placed on Communication Strategies during Emergencies, Industry Risk Assessments, Vendor Managed Inventory during Emergencies and partnering with the City of Los Angeles’ Emergency Management Dept. and FEMA Region IX.

Delegate Michael Cabrea (Past-President, Auto Delegate)

Michael Cabrea has a diverse background with over 18 years of experience in safety and risk management. As the Director of Safety and Risk Control, he has a personal passion in workplace health and safety especially in Safety Management System (SMS) functional components: Safety Plans & Policies, Safety Assurance, Hazard Identification & Risk Management, and Safety Promotion. He is also directly involved in practice areas such as workers’ compensation, claims management, and insurance. Michael has helped cultivate and reinforce overall company safety culture, and is always looking for innovative ways to mitigate risk and create a safe work environment.

Voting will occur at the June 26, 2018 meeting.  Your attendance is much appreciated.
